Merchandise only works if it's used. Too many products end up in a drawer, a tote bag, or straight into the trash because the design is made based on the needs of the sender - not the recipient.
Good merchandise is not advertising. It's a usable product that happens to carry your brand.
How to design merchandise your customers will actually use

1. Start with the product not the logo
Ask first: Would I use this myself if it didn't have a logo on it?
If the answer is no, the product is wrong. Function, quality and comfort must be in place before branding even comes into play. A good water bottle, a comfortable hoodie or a sturdy tote bag always beats a cheap alternative.

3. Design for the target group - not for everyone
Merchandise for students, festival goers and business customers should not look alike.
Think about:
- When will the product be used?
- In what context?
- What matches the target group's style and everyday life?
The better you capture the situation, the longer your brand will last.

4. Quality beats quantity
100 cheap products that are not used give less visibility than 25 products that people use over and over again.
Quality also signals something about your brand. Poor quality is remembered – just not positively.
A product that is used for two years is more sustainable than a product that is thrown away after two weeks – regardless of certifications.
